A trip to Columbus

On Thursday I made the easy drive up to Columbus, Ohio. First I visited Danny J.'s home, which is chock full of interesting antiques, including some uncommon typewriters such as this R. C. Allen Electrite and Royal Century.

Then it was off to On Paper, a charming stationery-and-more shop in Columbus' lively Short North area. Owner Joan Schnee has started carrying typewriters, and came up with the idea of organizing an event. Despite the Arctic weather, a good number of people came and spent a couple of hours together, chatting and typing happily.

I brought the Alpina below, which recently got a new platen. People enjoyed its looks and its typeface. Mason H. (below in necktie) came all the way from Tennessee for the type-in. Another participant lives in Utah, but happened to be in Columbus on business.

This gentleman is a linguist from Somalia who showed us his Olympia Carina 2 Arabic typewriter, purchased in 1994. It works very well and makes crisp, clean characters.

This 1933 Imperial Good Companion is the property of Mason Y., an Ohio State student:

Also present were Brian and Ian Brumfield of Brumfield & Sons Typewriters and Devin T., AKA Duffy Moon.

The shop carried an appropriate (or inappropriate?) card:

I'll close with an apt comment by one typist:

Nanonovel no. 30: Mission Without End

And that concludes this project, which I hereby dub Inconstancy.

To review the whole microstory, check out this PDF. I recommend downloading it and viewing it in two-page view, with the option of showing a cover page.

It's been fun! Now, what real, macroscopic novels have you typed during this National Novel Writing Month?
